Todd Braun - Owner Biography
Todd Braun began his racing career behind the wheel in one of the grass root divisions of racing, the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series. After a successful year of competition in which he finished 8th in the point standings, Braun decided to make the transition from driver to team owner by forming Braun Racing in 2002. In his first season as a team owner, Braun recruited up-and-coming driver, Chad Blount, to compete in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and quickly found success in his new role with Blount finishing second in the point standings and winning the prestigious “Rookie-of-the-Year” award.
In 2003, Todd Braun increased his presence in the racing world by running a limited schedule in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with such drivers as Casey Mears, David Stremme, Jamie McMurray and Chad Blount. With a solid foundation in place, Braun expanded his operation the next season to run full-time in both the NASCAR Nationwide Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series, fielding cars for drivers David Stremme, Jamie McMurray and Ryan Hemphill. That year, McMurray brought home the first NASCAR Nationwide Series win for Braun Racing at North Carolina Speedway. In addition, Stremme posted 14 top-10’s and set a new track qualifying record at the Milwaukee Mile while Hemphill impressed the ARCA world with six wins in just 13 races.
In 2005, Braun again placed a myriad of drivers behind the wheel of his No. 32 entry including Jorge Goeters, Ron Hornaday, Chad Blount and Jason Leffler. He ended the season with five top-five and 12 top-10 finishes and one pole. More important was the successful partnership between Braun and Leffler, who would return in 2006 as the sole driver of Braun’s No. 38 entry, sponsored by Great Clips. The pair ended the season with three top-fives, seven top-10’s and two poles.
In 2007, Braun Racing fielded two entries full time and as a whole captured one win, three poles, 10 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes. The team made history when Jason Leffler drove the No.38 Great Clips Camry to Victory Lane, a win that marked the Toyota Camry’s first Nationwide Series win! Leffler and the No.38 Great Clips team finished the year third in the season ending championship point standings, the best overall finish for a Braun Racing team to date.
Last season, Braun Racing fielded two full time entries and a third that ran a limited schedule. As Leffler continued to pilot the familiar red and black No. 38 Great Clips Camry, the No. 32 car featured an all-star line-up of Sprint Cup Series stars including Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Brian Vickers as well as up and coming rookie, James Buescher. The No. 32 team proudly bared the yellow and black colors of new sponsor, Dollar General in a majority of the races. In all, Braun Racing captured 14 top-five and 33 top-10 finishes as well as three poles. Highlighting the season was Kyle Busch’s win in May at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, driving the No. 32 Dollar General Camry.
The 2009 season could be one of the best for Braun Racing to date. Great Clips and Dollar General will both return as primary sponsors of the No. 38 and No. 32 entries respectively, with Dollar General increasing their involvement to a full-time sponsorship. Jason Leffler will return as driver of the No. 38 Great Clips Toyota for the fourth consecutive year while the No. 32 Dollar General Camry will feature the return of Brian Vickers for a majority of the races and the additional talent of David Reutimann, Jacques Villeneuve, Reed Sorenson and Brian Ickler to run in the remainder of races. The team will also field the No. 10 entry for a limited schedule with a variety of sponsors that include Beringer Vineyards, Dollar General, Great Clips and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
